CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DEFINED
Content Management Systems are database-driven web sites that have a suite of tools that allows for management, maintenance and editing of content to a Web site. CMS sites can also allow editors from various parts of an organization a log-in for permission based submission of information to an organization’s web site. All information added can always be reviewed and approved by a single site ADMIN but it does allow for outsourcing to appropriate areas of an organization the ability to update information.

BENEFITS
CMS web sites reduce the time and costs associated with Web content management by offering a centralized system for creating, editing and publishing well designed, standards-compliant and accessible web sites without requiring technical expertise. CMS eliminates the bottleneck associated with traditional code-driven Web development processes by providing authoring tools that are intuitive and easy for anyone to use. There is also the increased compliance with federal laws concerning access to information for people with disabilities, which CMS sites naturally address.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION ( SEO )
CMS web sites more ‘organically’ address SEO stumbling blocks by allowing for easy integration of plug-ins that do nothing but help each web site reach their target audience. MSIS includes installation of Google XML site maps plug-ins that actually notify ( resubmit data to ) Google each time content is edited, updated, changed or added. This also lets Google see how active your web site is. The more active content wise – the higher the ranking. CMS web sites also make it easy to integrate a blog into your web site. If you are adding content even once or twice a month to your web site Google will know and you will rank higher. There are also plug-ins that help you optimize your content and embed strategic keywords and meta data to help visitors find your site when searching for these same terms. The list of SEO advantages go on. MSIS will help you develop a web site strategy that helps you target your audience and then optimizes your web site to be found when they look for you on a search engine!

CONSISTENCY OF APPEARANCE
Unlike web editing programs like Dreamweaver or Front Page, a CMS stores the text separately from the presentation of the content. This means when a visitor comes to a Web page, the CMS is pulling the various parts and pieces of the page from a database and dynamically generating it. CMS uses access to php and css files that act as templates to ensure pages display consistently across a site – even if different people are managing areas of a single site, they cannot change the overall look and feel of the site as a whole.

COLLABORATIVE CONTENT CREATION
CMS workflow capabilities empower Web masters and content managers to distribute authoring responsibilities for the Web sites that they administer. By spreading this capability to multiple authors and editors who can generate, modify and even publish Web pages themselves, the timeliness, overall quality and value of the Web site are improved.

CONTENT INTEGRITY AND SECURITY
CMS inherently provides significant security advantages over traditional, file-driven Web sites that require FTP access in order to implement changes: Site managers can easily “roll back” unwanted or erroneous page changes. User role limitations protect site content from being accessed, overwritten, or deleted inappropriately. Workflow capabilities enforce user role permissions that eliminate the potential for unwanted content.

PLUGINS AND COMMUNITY BUILDING
With an ever growing list of open source plug-ins, CMS sites allow for greater adaptability to your site visitors. Some plug-ins allow for those commenting on your blog to subscribe to comments via email so that they’re notified that the conversation is continuing. There are plug-ins that allow you to welcome new visitors to your site and encourage them to sign up for your newsletters or RSS feed. Plug-ins allow your site to evolve and keep up with what is important to you and your affiliates.

CMS SITE REQUIREMENTS
These web sites require a MySQL database on their host server. MSIS as a reseller of domain registrar and hosting services, can offer hosting for her Clients as well as the database set up and implementation of new CMS site. In the case of MSIS provided hosting, Clients may choose to continue using their own URL by changing only the DNS address with their current registrar to redirect users to the new site files. If a Client chooses to use their own host they will be responsible for the set up and management of their own MySQL database and will need to provide MSIS with the required log-in.
